Allentown Boro, NY - Volunteer firefighters from the Allentown and Alma fire companies contained an active woods fire Thursday afternoon after a downed electrical line sparked dry brush along the South Branch of Fords Brook.

On the afternoon of October 8, 2026, emergency units were dispatched to the rural corridor following reports of brush and timber catching fire from a fallen, energized power line.

Fire crews from the Allentown Volunteer Fire Company and the Alma Fire Department responded quickly to the scene, coordinating tactical operations around the electrical hazard to extinguish the woodland flames and halt fire spread into adjacent timber stands. Responders operated on location for approximately one hour until the brush was fully soaked down and the immediate hazard mitigated.

Emergency medical coverage was maintained on scene throughout the operation by Wellsville EMS on standby. Utility personnel were notified to secure the power line and complete wire repairs.
