CAYUGA HEIGHTS, NY — August 18, 2026 — In anticipation of its Fall 2026 recruitment class, the Cayuga Heights Fire Department is seeking new volunteer firemen and EMTs. A recruit information meal is set for Thursday, September 17 at 6 p.m. According to the agency, prior EMS or fire experience is not necessary. The department's official recruitment information states that volunteers receive free training and protective gear.
Prospective members will have the chance to visit the fire station, meet existing firefighters and EMS staff, and learn more about the various ways they can serve during the September 17 information evening. Membership@chfd.net is the department's email address for anyone interested in attending or learning more. The same email address is listed for volunteer requests on the department's official contact site.
The Village of Cayuga Heights, parts of the Town of Ithaca, sections of Cornell University, and the surrounding areas of Tompkins County are served by the 100% volunteer Cayuga Heights Fire Department, which also offers advanced life support emergency medical services. Currently, the department employs about fifty firemen and runs two engines: an ALS rescue vehicle and a ladder truck.
