— July 29, 2026 — Members of the Centerville-Cedar Grove Fire District remained in near-continuous operation Wednesday as severe weather and flooding affected the Saugerties area, handling 18 calls for service between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The National Weather Service issued multiple flash-flood and flood warnings across the region that morning as heavy rainfall produced widespread flooding, road closures and rapidly rising water. In northeastern Ulster County, the National Weather Service reported 2 to 4 inches of rain, with additional rainfall possible, and warned that flash flooding was already occurring.

Two water rescues involving trapped drivers were part of the Centerville-Cedar Grove response, one within the district and the other as mutual aid to the Malden-West Camp Fire District. In addition, members responded to thirteen public service calls involving flooding inside homes, dealt with a tree obstructing a road, and evacuated inhabitants from a house under threat from quickly rising floodwaters.

According to its operational statement dated July 29, the department also supplied a mutual-aid standby assignment for a reported structure fire in the Glasco Fire District.

One of the most important calls occurred on Old Route 212 at around 12:31 p.m., when one person was stuck inside a car that had been damaged by floodwaters.

When firefighters arrived at the car, they were able to securely remove the stranded driver without any more problems.
