South Queensbury Firefighters Conduct Low-Angle Rescue Training

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

QUEENSBURY, NY — August 4, 2026 — On Tuesday nite, members of the South Queensbury Fire Department performed practical rescue training with an emphasis on low-angle rescue techniques and patient packing in a Stokes basket.

Firefighters had the chance to practice the skills necessary to transport a patient from a location where access can be challenging and where elevation or terrain presents extra difficulties.

In order to secure and move patients during technical rescue operations, members worked on packing a simulated patient into a Stokes basket, a stiff rescue basket. When a patient is being transported over uneven ground or along a long rescue route, proper packaging helps keep them safe.

According to the department, the training is a component of its ongoing initiative to train personnel in many facets of rescue operations.
