MALVERNE, NY — July 30, 2026 — On the twentieth anniversary of Firefighter Paul Ryan Brady's line-of-duty death, the Malverne Fire Department is commemorating him.

While doing normal maintenance on a fire department rescue truck at the Malverne firehouse, Brady was fatally injured. He passed away on July 30, 2006. He was forty-two. Brady is listed as a volunteer firefighter with the Malverne Fire Department by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.

Brady was working on the vehicle when it was removed from the firehouse, according to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. He was caught between the device and a ceiling beam after he fell. He was quickly helped by other firefighters and taken to the hospital, but he passed away later that day.

Brady had been an active member of the Malverne Fire Department and was known for contributing well beyond emergency responses. The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation said he regularly helped with training, firehouse projects and equipment maintenance and was often among the first members to arrive for overnight calls.

His colleagues also remembered Brady for his personality and willingness to help others. He was an avid cyclist and mountain climber, and he took part in long-distance charity bicycle rides. He also climbed Mount Rainier in Washington.
