ARCADE, NY — August 19 — Members of the Arcade Fire Department, located at 145 North St., Arcade, NY 14009, spent the evening restoring a piece of the department’s older fire equipment to operational use during a pumping session.

The training allowed firefighters to operate the apparatus, move water, and review basic pump operations.

Working with older equipment also allows members to maintain familiarity with vehicles that may hold historical significance for the department, while reinforcing essential foreground skills.

The Arcade Fire Department offers fire protection and rescue services to the local community and maintains specialized capabilities such as ice and water rescue, high-angle rescue, hazardous materials' response, search and rescue, and emergency medical services.

The apparatus used in the session is referred to by the department as the “Young.” Young Fire Equipment, based in the Buffalo area, produced fire apparatus from 1944 to 1991 and was well known for its Crusader line of pumpers.

For firefighters, activities like this provide a chance to review pump controls, water movement, and crew coordination in a low-pressure environment.

Regular hands-on training helps keep members familiar with equipment and strengthens the fundamental skills necessary for safe operations during emergency calls.
