ARCADE, NY — August 12 — Members of the Arcade Fire Department, located at 145 North St., Arcade, NY 14009, spent the evening focused on improving their water-rescue abilities. They practiced using throw bags and learned techniques for safely removing a person from the water.

This training allowed the team to work on deploying rescue equipment, communicating effectively, and carrying out patient removal in a controlled environment.

These skills are essential for emergency responders who may face incidents involving ponds, streams, lakes, or other water bodies.

The Village of Arcade has a specialized capability for ice and water rescue.

The department offers ice/water rescue, high-angle rope rescue, hazardous-materials response, search and rescue, fire protection, and emergency medical services. Their services cover the Village and Town of Arcade, as well as parts of the Town of Freedom.

In recent years, the department has carried out specific ice-rescue training. This training was designed to prepare new members and potential technicians for ice-rescue missions.
