MIDDLESEX, NY — August 10 — The Middlesex Hose Company is honoring Rodney Bassett for his more than 58 years of service as a volunteer firefighter, which includes over three decades in leadership roles within the department.

Bassett began his service with the Middlesex Hose Company on May 13, 1968.

Recent reports indicate that his time with the department has included three years as chief and 31 years as assistant chief, which is one year more than previously mentioned.He officially stepped down from his role as assistant chief on April 1, but continues to be an active member of the company.

Throughout his career, Bassett has witnessed significant changes in the volunteer fire service, including advancements in firefighting equipment, personal protective gear, communication systems, training programs, and emergency response techniques.

His extensive experience is a valuable asset to current members and officers.

The Middlesex Hose Company has a long-standing relationship with the local emergency services network.

The Middlesex Valley Volunteer Ambulance Service started operations in 1968, with its first ambulance originally stationed at the Middlesex Hose Company's facility.

Bassett also served as chief during a rural water supply training seminar held at the Middlesex fire station in 2009, reflecting the department's ongoing commitment to water supply operations.
