DRESDEN, NY — August 12 — Firefighters used a recent training session to practice drafting operations, focusing on a fundamental water-supply skill that is essential when hydrants are not available or a large water source is required.

The Dresden Volunteer Fire Department, located at 3 Firehouse Avenue, Dresden, NY 14441,The department has been serving the Village of Dresden and Town of Torrey since 1894 and operates several pieces of firefighting equipment, including an engine, engine-rescue unit, pumper-tanker, and rescue apparatus.

On August 12, during the training exercise, firefighters worked along the shoreline of Seneca Lake, using the department's equipment and hoses to set up a draft from the lake.

The training allowed them to gain practical experience in organizing the operation, supplying the pump, and maintaining a consistent water flow.
