WARREN, RI — August 7 — A group of probationary and cadet firefighters from the Warren Fire Department spent part of the day at Station 1 working on basic fireground skills, even though the weather was very hot.

The firefighters practiced using ground ladders, reviewed firefighting tactics, worked with a grip hoist, and examined a new cutting tool that has been assigned to the Special Hazards unit.

This hands-on experience allowed newer members to get more comfortable with the equipment and practice fundamental operations before starting their formal Basic Firefighter training in the fall.

The Warren Fire Department has a Special Hazards unit and offers training for its members who are working toward firefighter and technician-level certifications.

For probationary firefighters, these practice sessions are essential in developing the skills needed to work safely with experienced teams.

Tasks such as ladder placement, equipment handling, and communication become even more critical when performed during real emergency situations.
