HOLLIS, ME — August 11 — Hollis Fire Rescue used good weather conditions to gain hands-on experience with water rescue equipment at the new Bonny Eagle boat launch.

Firefighters practiced water rescue techniques using the department’s NRS lifeboat.

They focused on boat handling and rescue procedures in a controlled training setting.

This session allowed the crew to become more familiar with the equipment and practice water rescue operations in a safe environment before they are required during a real emergency.

The annual report from Hollis Fire Rescue lists ice and water rescue as key areas of regular training.

The Bonny Eagle Pond launch provides access to the Saco River impoundment, which is located in the Hollis and Buxton areas.

No emergency response was involved, and no other departments were called in for this training session.

For water rescue teams, it’s best to practice using the boat, equipment, and procedures before they are needed in an actual emergency.
