Fifty firefighters from Kennebunk Fire-Rescue, Arundel Fire-Rescue and Wells Fire Department participated in Tri-Town Hazardous Materials Operations and Technician Refresher training in Kennebunk, ME, on August 21.
Led by Al Nygren, the training focused on atmospheric monitoring, meter use and interpreting readings to make tactical decisions. Following classroom instruction, crews participated in a practical exercise simulating an ammonia release with a patient requiring rescue, gross decontamination, treatment and transport.
The scenario allowed firefighters to combine monitoring, PPE, rescue, decontamination and medical operations. York County Emergency Management Agency also participated in the training.
