Throwing Ladders Like It’s Nothing

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

KENNEBUNK, ME — July 24 — D-Shift firefighters from Kennebunk Fire Rescue used the time between emergency calls to practice their ground-ladder skills.

The crew worked on carrying, positioning, raising, and throwing ground ladders, which helps improve their teamwork and communication so they can quickly deploy a ladder when needed.

Fire service ladders are designed for heavy use and are stronger and heavier than the ladders commonly found in homes.

Safely moving these ladders requires good teamwork, proper technique, and regular practice.

Kennebunk Fire Rescue serves the town of Kennebunk and also provides assistance to nearby communities when needed.

This training did not involve any mutual-aid response.
