Dry hydrants in the town are routinely tested by the Hermon Fire Department to make sure they are still functional for usage in an emergency.
In locations without conventional fire hydrants, dry hydrants enable firemen to draw water from ponds and other water sources. Frequent testing enables teams to find and fix issues before the equipment is required in an emergency.
