FDNY Remembers Six Firefighters Lost in 1978 Waldbaum’s Fire

The FDNY commemorated the 48th anniversary of the Brooklyn Waldbaum's supermarket fire on August 2, 1978, in which six firefighters gave their lives.
Twelve firefighters were thrown into the inferno below as the supermarket's center section abruptly collapsed while twenty firefighters were working on the roof.
For their bravery, selflessness, and service to New York City, the department recognized Lt. James E. Cutillo, Firefighters Charles S. Bouton, Harold F. Hastings, James P. McManus, William O'Connor, and George S. Rice.
