EMS Station 16 Welcomes Community for FDNY Summer Block Party

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

FDNY EMS Station 16 in Manhattan, New York, welcomed residents on July 25, 2026, for one of the department’s Summer Block Parties, giving community members an opportunity to spend time with first responders outside of an emergency setting.

The event brought FDNY members and residents together for a day focused on community outreach and public safety. The department’s Summer Block Party program gives New Yorkers an opportunity to meet the personnel who serve their neighborhoods while becoming more familiar with FDNY operations and equipment. At other stops in the series, residents were able to explore apparatus and learn fire and life-safety information.

For EMS personnel, events such as the Station 16 gathering offer a different type of interaction with the public. Instead of meeting residents during medical emergencies, crews have an opportunity to build relationships and answer questions in a relaxed environment.

The FDNY Foundation supported the 2026 Summer Block Party series, which included events across the five boroughs. Following the Manhattan event, additional block parties were scheduled in Staten Island and the Bronx during August
