Mount Laurel, N.J. — July 20 — Recruits from the Junior Police Academy of the Mount Laurel Police Department were given a hands-on fire service training by the Mount Laurel Fire Department. In addition to touring department equipment and learning fundamental firefighting techniques, the candidates were introduced to emergency response procedures. The training gave participants the chance to learn about the tools, equipment, and everyday duties of firefighters.

The Mount Laurel Fire Department was founded in 1953 and offered public education, emergency medical care, fire suppression, and prevention. The department kept engines, quints, ladder trucks, a heavy rescue, and other specialist equipment at three stations manned around-the-clock. The academy session promoted community outreach and public safety education.
