Vincentown, N.J. — August 3 — Assistant Chief Dennis Herbster received recognition from Hampton Lakes Volunteer Fire Company for 24 years of service. Herbster became an active member in 2004 after joining as a junior firefighter in 2002. In addition to previous fire training, he finished Firefighter I, HazMat Operations, Incident Management Level III, and HazMat Incident Command. In addition, he earned his certification as a driver and operator by completing training in pump hydraulics and emergency vehicle driving.

Herbster went on to become assistant chief. His family, which included former chiefs Fred Hittner Sr. and Fred Hittner Jr., had strong links to Hampton Lakes. Gloria Hittner, his grandmother, was one of the first female firefighters in Burlington County. Herbster carried on the family custom.
