Lt. Tim Cure of West Greenwich Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 in West Greenwich, Rhode Island, was deployed to Quebec to assist with wildfire suppression efforts. Cure is working with the Connecticut Interstate Fire Crew outside the Val-d’Or area as crews battle wildfires during the 2026 season.
Cure’s assignment placed the West Greenwich firefighter alongside trained wildland personnel supporting ongoing suppression efforts in Quebec. His work is part of a larger regional response bringing firefighters from the United States to Canada to provide additional resources where they are needed.
The Connecticut Interstate Fire Crew trains firefighters for wildland fire assignments, including wildfire suppression tactics, safety, and incident command. Crew members are required to complete training, an annual physical work-capacity test, and refresher training to prepare for wildfire deployments.
Cure’s deployment highlights the role that trained local firefighters can play beyond their home communities. While serving with West Greenwich Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1, Cure has taken those skills to Quebec, where he is working with the Connecticut Interstate Fire Crew to support wildfire suppression operations.
