Lyme Fire Company Reflects on Inspiration and Service

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

The Lyme Fire Company honored the individuals and influences that have molded successive generations of firemen and emergency medical services professionals while reflecting on the passing of local firefighters.

Randolph Mantooth, widely known for his role as firefighter-paramedic John Gage on the television series Emergency!, was one of those influences. Mantooth, who passed away on July 9 at the age of 80, continued to be a steadfast advocate for the fire and emergency medical services. Millions of viewers were introduced to paramedicine thru the series, and many were motivated to seek professions in emergency services.

The department saw that firemen continue to learn from their mentors, instructors, and protectors. The effort continues with the straightforward pledge, "We'll take it from here," as one generation transfers duty to the next.
