Ledyard, CT. — July 23 — Members of Gales Ferry Fire Company participated in a water rescue and marine operations training exercise on the Thames River with firefighters from Ledyard Fire Company, Fairway Dr. Members were able to practice victim rescue tactics both on land and in the water while fulfilling the qualifications for Ledyard's new maritime unit. Crews received training in coordinated communications, victim recovery, boat handling, and teamwork in actual river circumstances.

The simulation reinforced protocols used in water emergencies and improved interoperability between the two departments. Firefighters may enhance their rescue skills, maintain operational preparedness, and get ready for events on the Thames River and other nearby waterways by participating in regular joint training.
