Grand Isle, VT. — July 3 — After the Grand Isle Volunteer Fire Department, located at 17 Hyde Road in Grand Isle, Vermont, responded to a medical emergency affecting one of its members, firefighter Fred Mashtare passed away. Firefighters and EMS staff used advanced life-saving techniques like CPR, but they were unable to bring him back to life. Mashtare was a lifelong member of the Grand Isle Volunteer Fire Department and spent more than 40 years in the fire service, including with multiple Grand Isle County departments.

In addition, he coached future firemen while serving on the board of North Country International Fire Training Service Inc. As the agency recognized his decades of devoted service, funeral plans were anticipated to be revealed later.
