Stony Brook Firefighters Rescue Kayaker in Distress

At 1:48 p.m. on July 4, the Stony Brook Volunteer Fire Department received a report of a distressed kayaker who had drifted approximately a quarter of a mile west of Shore Road.


The tired kayaker, who was wearing a personal flotation device, was found by firefighters in collaboration with the Smithtown Bay Constable and a Suffolk County Police marine unit. After the subject was safely transported to the Town of Brookhaven floating dock, Stony Brook Fire Department EMS staff performed a medical assessment.
