As the country commemorated America's 250th anniversary on July 4, members of the Stony Brook Volunteer Fire Department took part in the annual Port Jefferson Independence Day Parade.

In keeping with the department's long-standing custom of participating in the holiday parade, firefighters joined nearby departments, locals, and community organizations in celebrating the historic milestone. Volunteers encouraged locals to enjoy safely while being prepared to handle problems throughout the day.

During the holiday celebrations, department officials advised the public to practice safe grilling, leave fireworks to qualified professionals, and keep hydrated.
