Rangeley, ME - The Rangeley Fire Rescue hosted a Hazardous Materials Technician course, bringing together responders to advance specialized skills and strengthen regional emergency preparedness.

Four members of the department—Michael Bacon, Steven Grant, Camdan Carmichael, and Matthew Pellerin—successfully completed the training. The program also included participation from the Center Ossipee Fire Department, highlighting the importance of interagency collaboration.

The course focused on advanced hazardous materials response, including identification, assessment, and mitigation of chemical incidents. Technicians are trained to perform specialized operations such as leak control, product transfer, monitoring, decontamination, and the use of protective equipment.

This certification enhances the department’s ability to safely manage complex incidents, including hazardous material releases, spills, industrial emergencies, and other high-risk situations, while supporting mutual aid partners across the region.
