Plaque Dedication Commemorates Three Fallen FDNY Firefighters

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

On June 17, the New York City Fire Department honored three firemen who lost their lives while performing their duties and commemorated the 25th anniversary of the Father's Day Fire with a wreath-laying and plaque dedication ceremony.

The event honored Firefighters Brian D. Fahey and Harry S. Ford of Rescue 4, as well as Firefighter John J. Downing of Ladder 163, who perished in an explosion on June 17, 2001, while fighting a hardware store fire in Queens. Each of the three was a father.

Their devotion, sacrifice, and enduring legacy within the FDNY are permanently honored by the recently installed plaque.
