Jacksonville Fire Rescue (JFRD) Marine 38 recent performed some training alongside the former USS Orleck that now serves with the Jacksonville Naval Museum.

Marine 38 is a 2010 MetalCraft Firestorm 70 Fireboat that was named in the honor of the former medical director of JFRD Dr Robert F Kiely. Dr Keily served as the JFRD medical director for 32 years, passing away in 2016. In addition to his service with JFRD, he was also a doctor for the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office SWAT team and served in the Army Reserve Colonel with multiple combat deployments in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

USS Orleck DD-886 served in the US Navy from 1945 until 1982 with combat deployments to Korea and Vietnam. This Gearing Class destroyer was transferred to the Turkish Navy where it served as TCG Yücetepe (D 345) from 1982 until 2000. In 2000, it was returned to the United States for use as a museum ship in Texas and Louisiana before being towed to Jacksonville in 2022. The ship is located as 610 E Bay St Jacksonville FL and can be toured Wednesday thru Sunday. The site will also be home to the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Museum that is currently undergoing renovations. USS Orleck is available as a training site for public safety organizations. The below deck spaces provide a unique training opportunity to practice technical rescues in confined spaces.
