Altoona, Pa. — June 17 — A First Responder Safety Training workshop on compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles and fuelling facilities was attended by over 20 members of the Logan Township United Fire Department. CNG system design, emergency shutdown protocols, hazard identification, and responder safety were all covered in the training, which was delivered by teachers from the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy. In order to have a firsthand look at the machinery and its integrated safety features, participants also took a tour of an AMTRAN CNG bus and fuelling station.

Firefighters are better equipped to handle situations involving fleets of CNG-powered cars thanks to specialist training. According to department officials, the program enhanced operational expertise and preparedness for future natural gas infrastructure emergency responses.
