JACKSON, N.J. — April 8th — After passing the National Registry EMT exam and finishing his probationary year with the department, Firefighter Jelani Sanchez was acknowledged by members of Jackson Township Fire District No. 4. Sanchez was the first employee hired without a background in public safety, according to officials, and he entered the district without any prior fire or EMS expertise.

While working with district crews, he earned his Firefighter 1, Firefighter 2, Hazardous Materials, and EMT certifications since joining the department. Sanchez obtained his black helmet shield and full membership status after a year of service. His cheerful outlook and mechanical abilities, which continue to support department operations, training, and daily response actions, were also emphasized by department authorities.
