"Operation Twisted Steel” Puts Students Through Realistic Mass Casualty Crash Simulation

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Chepachet, RI - Students enrolled in emergency services training classes at Ponaganset High School took part in an intense multi-agency crash simulation designed to challenge their emergency response skills and highlight the real-world consequences of impaired and reckless driving.

Dubbed “Operation Twisted Steel,” the exercise centered around a two-vehicle collision involving heavy entrapment, a simulated fatality, and a DUI investigation.

The realistic scenario tested students’ ability to perform under pressure while working alongside experienced first responders in a fast-paced emergency environment.

The Chepachet Fire Department, West Glocester Fire and Rescue, Harmony Fire District, South Foster Fire Department, and the Glocester Police Department all participated in the large-scale training event.

Officials emphasized that the exercise was more than just a demonstration — it was an opportunity for students to develop leadership, communication, and technical rescue skills in a highly realistic setting.

The simulation was recorded and may later be presented to the entire student body as an educational tool focused on safe driving and emergency preparedness.
