Bridgeton Mourns Loss of Firefighter Bob Wastell

Lorne "Bob" Wastell, a former firefighter, passed away on April 16 at the age of 80, according to the Bridgeton Fire Department. Before retiring on March 1st, 2004, Wastell served for more than 25 years after starting his career on September 17th, 1978. He held positions as an arson investigator, fire inspector, EMT, and firefighter throughout that time.


He oversaw a fire safety initiative in Bridgeton Public Schools, earning him the nickname "Fireman Bob." He continued to serve as chairman of the Bridgeton Firemen Relief Association's Trustees when he retired. According to department authorities, his contributions and service will be honored. Viewings were planned on April 24 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. and April 23 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
