Cottekill, NY — April 12th — During National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, Cottekill Volunteer Fire Company honored dispatchers, highlighting their function as the initial point of contact in crises. Telecommunicators respond to 911 calls, collect vital information, and send out law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services. In order to assist teams on the scene, they also coordinate resources, keep an eye on radio traffic, and provide updates.
Their efforts contribute to the timely delivery of reliable information, enabling responders to operate effectively and safely. From the first call through the conclusion of an incident, dispatchers—often referred to as the "first, first responders"—play a crucial role. Their contribution to day-to-day operations and coordinated emergency response is highlighted during the annual celebration.
