Berkshire Trains on VEIS and Drafting Operations

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

On April 15, Berkshire Volunteer Fire Department members practiced drafting operations and VEIS (Vent, Enter, Isolate, Search) tactics as part of their monthly drill.

Lieutenant Dalton and Lieutenant Walrath positioned mock victims all about the building, including behind furniture, on windowsills, and under other victims, as Captain Kane Rokjer oversaw the exercise. Firefighters used VEIS techniques to separate rooms and carry out focused searches in order to find and remove two victims.

Once found, victims were transferred to windows, where workers on ladders helped remove them. Setting up a draft operation to assist a Fulton County BFO class was another aspect of the drill.
