Hogansburg Crews Train for Methanol Fire Hazards

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

On April 27, members of the Mohawk International Raceway track safety team of the Hogansburg Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department held their yearly training on racing events.

This year's session focused on the dangers of methanol fuel, which can cause almost undetectable flames in daylight, in light of the Empire Super Sprints' 2026 comeback. When working near methanol fires, crews went over detection, suppression, and responder safety.

Hands-on extrication skills, such as removing a HANS device from a race car, were also part of the training. Andy Fish, Nick Mallette, and Action Race Parts contributed vehicles and equipment.
