Multi-Agency Training Evolves During Controlled Burn Attempt

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Orland, ME - Orland Fire Department personnel participated in a multi-agency training evolution alongside area departments and the Forest Service during a planned controlled burn operation in Penobscot.

Crews responded with Engine 513 and engaged in coordinated operations, gaining valuable experience in interagency communication, scene management, and prescribed fire procedures.

During the exercise, operational challenges—including apparatus mobility issues in soft terrain and increasing wind conditions—led to the decision to suspend the burn for safety.

Despite the cancellation, the training provided important hands-on learning opportunities and reinforced the importance of adaptability in dynamic environments.

Assistance from on-scene personnel ensured apparatus was safely recovered, allowing crews to return without further issue.
