NEWTOWN, CT — April 27th — Firefighter Ryan Luning and support staff member Lauren Botsford were acknowledged by the Botsford Fire Rescue for earning their Firefighter I certification.

The program, which combines classroom teaching with live fire evolutions, usually calls for 110–140 hours of training spread over several weeks. Hose handling, search, ventilation, and safety protocols are among the fundamental fireground operations that certification prepares members for.

Through this training, Botsford, an EMT with several affiliations, and Luning, a mechanic with Norwalk Marine Contractors, have both increased their capabilities within the department.
