SKOWHEGAN, ME — March 26th — Training on ice water rescue and cold weather crises was held by the Skowhegan Fire Department, located at 51 East Madison Road. Crews practiced coordinated operations using specialized rescue equipment in collaboration with the Anson Fire Department and RFGH EMS. With a focus on safe removal and treatment, the course covered patient care for cold-related illnesses such hypothermia.

Despite their infrequency, these calls carry a high danger, necessitating effective coordination and technique. Because of the winter ice conditions on local waterways, departments throughout Maine continue to train for similar situations. Ice weakens with rising temperatures, putting the public at greater risk and highlighting the necessity of being ready.
