ASHVILLE — April 9th — Following years of applications, the Ashville Volunteer Fire Company announced that it has been awarded a 2024 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) by FEMA.

About 86% of the $131,200 project cost to buy 25 new sets of turnout gear is covered by the $114,000 grant. Twenty-five firemen will receive upgraded coats, pants, boots, gloves, hoods, and helmets thanks to the funds.

The replacement equipment is crucial for firefighter safety and operational preparedness, according to officials. Each set costs roughly $5,300 and includes an expected service life of 10 years, making periodic replacement a critical aspect of sustaining protective standards.
