Chautauqua, NY - With low fog settling over the lake and light rain falling, the department recently conducted a nighttime training session at Prendergast Point. Despite the challenging conditions, the crew took advantage of the opportunity to practice essential operational skills.

During the drill, firefighters worked on drafting from a dry hydrant, pump operations, and flowing water through the ladder truck’s deck gun. The training required strong coordination, clear communication, and mutual trust—each member playing a critical role in efficiently moving water from the lake to the apparatus and ultimately to the fire stream.

The session provided a rewarding chance for the team to work with complex equipment and witness the entire operation come together smoothly, even in adverse weather. These hands-on exercises help build the skills and confidence needed to respond effectively when the community calls.
