Oakdale, PA - This month’s training program focused on medical response calls. Over the past two weeks, firefighters participated in instructional sessions conducted by NorthWest EMS. The first session covered CPR, AED, and First Aid recertification, ensuring members maintained essential life-saving skills. The second session introduced an ALS Assistant course, designed to enhance firefighters’ ability to support paramedics during medical emergencies.

The ALS Assistant training provided practical guidance on assisting with advanced medical procedures, including preparing IV supplies and setting up equipment such as the LUCAS device, an automated system used to deliver consistent chest compressions during CPR. The course emphasized teamwork, efficiency, and effective coordination in emergency situations.

In addition, the training was inclusive of participants’ families, as some members’ children took part in the sessions. Those who met the required age criteria were also certified in CPR, further extending life-saving knowledge within the community.
