Whitehall Fire Department Wins “Hoagies for Heroes” Contest at Wawa Grand Opening

March 14, 2026 — Members of the Whitehall Fire Department participated in a spirited and community-focused event during the grand opening of a new Wawa location on MacArthur Road, taking part in the store’s “Hoagies for Heroes” contest.


Firefighters went head-to-head with members of the American Red Cross in a friendly competition to assemble the most hoagies. Both teams finished with an impressive total of 19 hoagies each, leaving the final decision to the judges based on presentation. After careful evaluation, Whitehall Fire Department was declared the winner, earning top honors in the contest.


The event highlighted the strong partnership between local businesses and emergency service organizations, while also providing a fun opportunity for community engagement. Department members expressed appreciation to Wawa for the invitation and continued support of local first responders.
