SANBORN, NY — March 12th — A training exercise on fireground operations and scene size-up was carried out by Shawnee Volunteer Fire Company Inc. members. Firefighters went over the duties of the first-arriving unit throughout the exercise, including assessing the situation, spotting potential threats, and developing a preliminary plan for incident operations. A crucial phase in the Incident Command System employed by the fire service, scene size-up aids in directing choices about crew assignments, equipment placement, and safety.
South Lockport Fire Co., Inc. firefighters took part in the exercise, which gave both departments the opportunity to practice together and improve cooperation during mutual assistance operations. In order to keep firefighters prepared to handle structure fires and other crises in a safe and orderly way, fireground operations training is still a regular component of department preparation.
