March 11, 2026 — The Hinesburg Fire Department responded just after 7:00 a.m. to assist the Richmond Fire Department with a reported fire alarm on West Main Street in Richmond. The initial call, prompted by a passerby noticing interior strobe lights, brought crews from Richmond and the Bolton Fire Department to the scene, where smoke was discovered on the second floor. Additional mutual aid was requested from Hinesburg, Williston Fire Department, and Underhill/Jericho Fire Department. Richmond crews quickly contained and extinguished the fire to a small area, while Hinesburg firefighters assisted with ventilation and overhaul operations to ensure no further extension. The affected second floor was unoccupied, and no injuries were reported. Officials emphasized the importance of public awareness and reporting potential hazards, noting that the building’s alarm system was not directly connected to dispatch. The incident also follows another recent fire response involving unattended cooking, reinforcing the need for vigilance and properly monitored alarm systems. Hinesburg Fire Department responded with three personnel staffing an engine and rescue truck and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting neighboring agencies through mutual aid.
