Bystanders Rescue Children as Firefighters Stop Vehicle Blaze from Reaching Building

Barre City, VT - Quick-thinking bystanders rescued two children from a burning vehicle before firefighters arrived to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to a nearby structure.


Fire crews responded to a reported vehicle fire on North Main Street and found a car heavily involved in flames, parked just feet from a building. Firefighters rapidly knocked down the blaze, stopping it from extending to the structure.


Investigators determined that two children, ages 4 and 7, were secured in child safety seats inside the vehicle when the fire began.


Bystanders who noticed smoke coming from the car acted immediately, entering the vehicle and safely removing both children before conditions worsened.


Officials credited the bystanders’ swift and decisive actions with likely preventing serious injuries, highlighting the critical role of public awareness and quick response in emergency situations.
