March 3, 2026 — Hinesburg Fire Department responded alongside Huntington Fire Department to a reported chimney fire, bringing two engines to assist with fire suppression efforts. Crews worked to extinguish the fire and ventilate the home, removing smoke and dangerous carbon monoxide buildup to ensure the structure was safe for occupants. Following the incident, firefighters conducted a homeowner-approved walkthrough and identified the need for an additional smoke and carbon monoxide alarm. Through participation in the 802 Fire Safe Program, operated by Vermont Division of Fire Safety, crews were able to install a combination alarm on-site before clearing. Officials emphasized the importance of working smoke and CO alarms, regular chimney inspections, and proper ash disposal, noting that the program helps enhance early detection and overall community safety. Residents in Hinesburg and Huntington are encouraged to request free home safety checks to ensure their alarms are properly installed and up to date.
