Pownal Fire Handles Mutual Aid Coverage and Chimney Fire Response

March 25, 2026 — The Pownal Fire Department responded with Engine 1-5 on a mutual aid assignment to cover the Town of Bennington while crews there were operating at a structure fire. Shortly after clearing that assignment, Pownal firefighters, along with the Pownal Valley Fire Department, were dispatched to a reported chimney fire on Sarah Lane. Crews quickly assessed the situation and operated on the roof to check the chimney and ensure the fire was contained, preventing further extension into the structure.
