March 9, 2026 — The Gilmanton Firefighters Association recognized Captain John Cunningham as part of its ongoing “Member Monday” spotlight, highlighting his service, leadership, and personality within the department. A paramedic and longtime member since joining in 2012, Cunningham was drawn to the Gilmanton Fire Department by a desire to serve the community and has remained a dedicated presence ever since. Originally from Wakefield, Cunningham balances his professional responsibilities with family life alongside his wife, Alicia, and their two children. Known among colleagues for his dry humor and trademark “withering glance,” he brings both professionalism and camaraderie to the department. He cited the variety of calls and strong appreciation from community members as the most rewarding aspects of his role. Outside of duty, Cunningham enjoys spending time in the outdoors, often in quiet reflection, and is well known among his peers for his simple go-to shift meals and lighthearted personality. Department officials expressed appreciation for his continued commitment to service and leadership within the ranks.
