Basement Fire Quickly Contained by Merrimack Crews, Mutual Aid Assists

Merrimack, NH - Merrimack Fire Rescue responded to a reported building fire on Upham Road, located off Wilson Hill Road near the Amherst town line.


Units arriving on scene encountered heavy smoke conditions coming from a ranch-style single-family residence.


Police officers, first to arrive, reported significant smoke from the structure, prompting an immediate request for additional resources, including a tanker from Amherst.


Upon arrival, fire crews confirmed a working fire and requested mutual aid, bringing assistance from surrounding departments.


Firefighters advanced into the home and located a well-established fire in the basement. Crews faced zero visibility and heavy fire conditions while searching for and locating the seat of the fire.


Once found, the fire was extinguished and brought under control without significant difficulty.


The fire caused extensive damage to the basement area of the home.


No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Merrimack Fire Marshal’s Office.
