February 22, 2026 — Edgewater Park Volunteer Hose Company No. 1 Inc. has shared a critical update from the National Weather Service announcing a Blizzard Warning for New York City, in effect from 1:00 PM on February 22 through 6:00 PM on February 23. Forecasters are predicting 15 to 20 inches of snowfall accompanied by sustained winds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts reaching up to 55 mph and isolated gusts as high as 60 mph. Visibility may be reduced to as little as one-quarter mile at times, creating extremely dangerous travel conditions and increasing the likelihood of power outages. Officials strongly advise residents to avoid unnecessary travel and to utilize mass transit if travel is unavoidable. Residents are encouraged to prepare in advance by charging electronic devices, gathering emergency supplies, and lowering refrigerator and freezer temperatures. During potential power outages, safety officials stress the importance of staying clear of downed power lines, turning off appliances, keeping refrigerator and freezer doors closed, and never operating generators indoors. Individuals with disabilities, access needs, or those reliant on life-sustaining equipment are advised to seek assistance by dialing 911 if needed. Authorities continue to emphasize preparedness and caution as the storm approaches.
