Burtonsville, MD — March 9th — After completing the department's training and evaluation procedure, EMT Sabrina Johnston was granted Officer in Charge (OIC) status on a Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Department ambulance, the department stated. Johnston started working toward the charge job shortly after joining the department in October 2024. Classroom training, independent study, and a series of written and practical in-station exams were all part of the program.

Johnston worked in the charge role on assessed emergency calls under the guidance of a seasoned EMT prior to being granted OIC status. The procedure ensures that EMS workers exhibit the leadership, patient care expertise, and decision-making abilities required to oversee an ambulance crew. Johnston's commitment to training and ongoing support of the Burtonsville community was acknowledged by BVFD personnel.
